Lofoten northern lights are the most spectacular light show with dancing waves of green and red light across the starlit skies. It is truly sexy and wild Therefore many tourist visit the Lofoten Islands during wintertime going hunting for the northern lights. Experiencing the northern lights is an experience for life. It is truly magical.

Artic Guide Service offers guided tours for tourists. They are excellent at finding the Lofoten Northern lights. We recommend their services if you want one of the best light hunters. This gives you also the best chance to see this magical thing.

There is a lot of myths and beliefs about this phenomenon. In Northern Norway many people still will not wave or point at the northern lights. It the old times many believed that doing so the lights would come down and take them. The northern lights are visible in the months between August and March,

In the old days, many Scandinavians believed the Aurora was the reflection of huge schools of herring in the sea. In Chinese and Japanese cultures it is still believed that a child conceived under the northern lights will be blessed with good fortunes. According to Japanese myths, having sex under the Northern Lights supposedly gives baby boys, beautiful children or happy children. We have been told that people have been found in different places having sex under the Northern Lights . Also on the deck of the Hurtigruten ship

Lofoten Viking History

When you are traveling to a new place one of the most exciting aspects of your touring is learning about the unique history of that area and how it has continued to impact the area. When it comes to the Lofoten Islands this history is linked to the Vikings.

Few groups in history have had the mystique, allure, and larger than life legendary status as the Vikings. Tales of this group often walk the line between myth and reality, bringing the main historical figures almost to the status of gods. Those that are fascinated by these people are drawn to the lifestyle that they led and the imprint that they left on cultures that can still be seen today. One of these cultures is the Norwegian culture of Lofoten.

If you are visiting the Lofoten Islands you absolutely must take the time to visit the Lofoten Viking Museum and spend some time developing a greater understanding and appreciation for the history and culture of the area. This museum was created out of the home of a Chieftain that was erected in approximately 500 AD.
http://grownuptravelguide.com
In 1983 archaeological studies of the area began. Between 1986 and 1989 the research project there discovered the remains of what turned out to be the largest building found to date anywhere in the Viking Realm—both in Norway and other European locations. Deeper research into the area and the building itself revealed that this building was in fact the home of a Chieftain, one of the most powerful to have lived. The building itself was likely erected around 500 AD at a length of 67 meters but was then rebuilt to a length of 83 meters (around 250 feet) at the beginning of the Viking Era.

The research into this area also uncovered a variety of objects from the Viking Era and the Bronze Age. Many of these items can be seen in the exhibitions of the Lofoten Viking Museum.

If you visit the museum you are not just going to wander through halls looking at displays. The museum strives to offer interactive, immersive experiences that bring you back in time to the days of the Vikings so that you can witness how they lived, and try your hand at some of their daily activities.

You can take a horse drawn carriage ride from the main building to the boathouse where you can board a reconstruction of a Viking ship and join the rowing team. You can also visit the domesticated animal exhibition to see the types of animals that were common and beneficial during the Viking times.

If you want to really immerse yourself in the Viking culture, make reservations to be a part of the Viking dinner. Professional guides dressed in historically accurate costuming prepare a traditional meal and offer the alcohol and honey mixture called Mead that was a popular drink in the day. You can also stop into the banquet hall during the peak season (June 15 through August 15) and taste traditional Viking broth and glasses of Mead served in reconstructed Viking serving ware.

So you’ve started planning your vacation and realized that you are tired of visiting the same old destinations that your family or group of travel friends have gone to what seems like a thousand times before. You made great memories in those places but they are all blending together now and you are ready to create some new memories in a place you have never been. This can be a fun and exciting adventure if you pick the right place. If you are looking for a vacation destination that is unique, rich with history yet filled with edgy and contemporary details, and offers a tremendous array of activities and experiences for you to choose from, consider the Lofoten Islands.

Lofoten is a string of islands, an archipelago, in the country of Norway. The collection of islands got its name from the ancient name for just one of the islands, which was a combination of Norse words brought together to reference the fact that the island resembled the shape of a lynx’s foot. This name now applies to the entire chain of islands.

There are many reasons to visit Lofoten, varying in importance depending on the particular interests and preferences of your travel group. If you are considering the Lofoten Islands as your vacation destination reviewing these reasons to visit can help you to decide if the spot is right for you.

Reasons to Visit Lofoten

·

Though the Lofoten Islands are technically located in the Arctic Circle a series of natural phenomena result in this area having the highest positive temperature anomaly on earth. This means that though you would expect a location in the Arctic Circle to be in a constant state of freezing weather, the wonderfully mild climate actually has average temperatures throughout the year that never dip below freezing, and never get above around 85 degrees.

·

Unlike some areas, the weather in Lofoten is very predictable. May and June are the driest months of the year, with October making up for them with three times the amount of precipitation. You can expect windy, rainy conditions in the fall, snow and sleet in the winter, and calm mild days in the summer.

·

The landscape is breathtakingly beautiful. The mountains that make up the chain of islands are generally covered with glittering snow, the coastline features sandy beaches and lapping waves, and the rest of the islands are largely unspoiled.

·

Despite its remote location and historic, nostalgic, and untouched feeling, the Lofoten Islands archipelago off of the coast of Norway offers vacationers many opportunities to explore, indulge, and experience. Lofoten tourism has grown rapidly as people have realized the beauty of this area and flock to it to appreciate the peaceful and unhurried land that seems at once so ancient yet firmly placed in contemporary times.

If you are planning a trip to the Lofoten Islands you may be wondering about the tourism opportunities available to you so that you can start making plans ahead of time. The choices that you make will largely depend on your interests as well as those of your travel group because despite being small and quiet, the Lofoten Islands have much to offer.

Popular Lofoten Tourism Opportunities:

·

The history of the Lofoten Islands is incredibly deep and ingrained in the culture of today. People of inhabited these islands for thousands of years, with the industry and culture of the fisheries and fishing villages persisting for the last millennium. You are invited to immerse yourself in this history by touring the quaint fishing villages and taking some time to explore the historical museums dedicated to the fishing culture and the Vikings.

·

Particularly popular is the Viking museum which allows guests not onto see items and displays from the days of the Viking people as well as the Bronze Age, but also to feel captured by the time when they watch historical demonstrations, eat traditional food, and attempt to live up to the standards of a rower on a recreation of a Viking ship.

·

Though car travel is not uncommon in this country, many people, particularly tourists and young natives, enjoy the chance to wander the beautiful landscape on a bicycle. There is a very clearly defined bike route that follows nearly the entire Island and allows the rider to bypass the public road tunnels that attach the islands by either going onto a cycling route that winds through the mountains, or traveling for part of the way on a boat.

·

For the most adventurous of travelers, the Lofoten Islands is a fabulous location for rock climbing. The chain of islands offers a variety of terrains and climbing challenges, allowing you to go from fairly simple elevations to near-vertical ascents that will push you to new heights but reward you richly when you reach the summit and can take in the breathtaking beauty around you.

·

Boat tours are very popular in this area. This Lofoten tourism opportunity brings you out into the cold, clean water of the sea surrounding the islands and allows you to witness the grand landscape, the tremendously varied wildlife, and the fishing culture. You may get the opportunity to see a herd of killer whales, or get to watch sea eagles soaring majestically above the water.

·

The beauty of this area has called to many artists, both native and from other parts of the world, who have come to offer their personal perspective of the land through their paintings and other mediums. You can wander the galleries located on the Islands, and even purchase pieces of the art to bring some of Lofoten home with you.

Vacationing is all about indulging your greatest pleasures. For those that love the outdoors and physical activity, Lofoten hiking may be the ideal vacation option. The Lofoten Islands are delightful, extremely remote archipelago off of the mainland of Norway. The culture here is ancient, hinged on the influences of the Viking people and the importance of the fisheries that have been taking advantage of the abundance of cod in the surrounding waters for over 1,000 years. The islands are also the perfect destination for someone eager to embark on a hiking vacation.

Lofoten hiking is about far more than just walking along the coastline or exploring the tiny, old fishing villages. When you are hiking through the Lofoten Islands you are bringing yourself up close and personal with some of the most varied and impressive natural phenomena and wildlife you can imagine. Take the time to witness the wildlife around you. This calm, largely untouched area is home to a tremendous variety of birds, including puffins, sea eagles, cormorants, gannets, gulls, and petrels, but you are also likely to see seals and even herds of killer whales gliding through the sea.

For most people, however, hiking is about a combination of wildlife and landscape. The Lofoten Islands offer an incredible range of landscapes to welcome and challenge you through your hiking tour. Of course, one of the main things that you should be aware of if you are planning on a Lofoten hiking vacation is the weather and conditions. The first two major concepts that you should understand when planning your trip are the midnight sun and the Polar night. These are points during the year when the sunlight reaches extremes due to the location of the islands above the Arctic Circle.

The Polar night happens during the winter when, beginning in the later portion of September, the amount of sunlight that shines on the Lofoten Islands during the day begins to wane until the entire archipelago is wrapped in 24 hours of darkness. The midnight sun happens during the summer when the days grow longer until there is a period of 24 hour sunlight.

For most hikers, the temperature will be a major consideration. The Lofoten Islands are not a hot location, but the climate is quite mild considering the latitude of the archipelago. Depending on the timing of your vacation you can expect temperatures that range from around 28 degrees Fahrenheit to around 37 degrees Fahrenheit, with the tendency to be above the freezing mark, during the winter, to between 44 degrees Fahrenheit and 60 degrees Fahrenheit during the summer, though the temperature sometimes spikes into the 70s and low 80s.

Though there are plenty of traditional accommodations available in the Lofoten Islands, many hikers prefer the opportunity to remain out in nature so they can wander as they please. You are welcome to camp in most areas, and will be welcomed by those that encounter you. When doing so, however, be sure to follow the simple rules:

·

Do not pitch your tent within 150 meters of a house.

·

Ask permission before you pitch your tent within a fence.

·

Stay no more than two nights in the same spot unless you get permission.

When traveling to a new place there are always seemingly innumerable things to do. How could you possibly choose what should fill your vacation days? This largely depends on your particular interests and those of your family. By understanding what about the vacation destination is most appealing to each member of your travel group you can better plan out your trip so that each person creates the memories that they want and get to maximize their time experiencing the new area.

One of the best ways to get a feel for the area that you are visiting and absorb information about the history, culture, and sights of the destination is by taking advantage of guided tours. These tours enable you to glean information from knowledgeable guides—generally natives to the area that can offer a depth and emotional tie that is only possible from someone that has lived in the area throughout his life.

When it comes to guided tours in Lofoten you have many options to choose the type of tour that would best meet the vacation aspirations of all the members of your group. In order to make the most out of your trip it will benefit you to do research into the guided tours in Lofoten that interest you well before it is time to embark on your trip not only so that you will know what to expect, but so that you can make any necessary arrangements.

Arrangements that you may need to make to prepare for your guided tours include making reservations or registering for the number of people in your travel group that are going to go on the tour, paying any fees that are required ahead of time, making any transportation arrangements to and from the tour, and even making any dining reservations that you may want for before or after the tour.

Though there are other types of tours available such as those that are interested in learning the fascinating Viking and fishing history of the Lofoten Islands, one of the most popular guided tours in Lofoten focus on the water around the island. One such tour allows you to spend a night in one of the quaint fisherman’s cabins traditional in Norway and then get picked up by a ferry boat that will bring you on a truly memorable cruise through Troll Fjord. This area illustrates the truly spectacular and beautiful scenery that makes up the Lofoten Islands.

Another option is available to visitors from late May through the middle of September. During this tour you will get to watch the workings of a traditional codfish fishery still at work, then turn your eyes to the open water where you may get the unique opportunity to glimpse the majestic beauty of whales as they swim through the sea and rise to the surface to breathe.

Taking a guided tour during your vacation is the perfect opportunity not just to get a greater understanding of how this destination developed, but also to appreciate the intense glory that draws artists in from around the world.

A trip to the Arctic Circle archipelago of the Lofoten Islands gives travelers a tremendous range of options when it comes to accommodations, entertainment, and exploration. One of the most popular sites, however, is the Reine in Lofoten. This tiny fishing villages is one of the most famous of its type and is considered one of the most beautiful places in all of Norway.

This spot, along with other fishing villages similar to it along the coasts of the Lofoten Islands, are often referred to as the “soul of northern Norway” because they strongly link the country to its cultural and industrial origins. This area has been the center of cod fishing for over a millennium and continues to operate much as it has for hundreds of years, with families continuing the traditions of the fisheries and inhabiting the same quaint fishing villages as generations before them.

When visiting Reine in Lofoten you will immediately be struck by the physical beauty of the area. The vast majority of the natural landscape has remained untouched, with the human element being carefully integrated as to take advantage of the rich resources of the area but still honoring its beauty, integrity, and incredible age. The water here is unbelievably blue, clean, and cold, the perfect conditions for the fish that come here to spawn and the herds of killer whales that can sometimes be seen far off the coast of the Islands.

Even the light in Reine has a different feeling to it, a testament to the influences of the Artic Circle. Here you can stand in awe of the Northern Lights, find your bearings in the darkness of the 24 hour long stretches of sunless conditions during the Polar night, or stay up way past your bedtime to frolic in the incredible midnight sun during 24 hour stretches of soft, appealing sunlight during the summer.

The traditional feeling of Reine is continued through the accommodations available in this little village. Though there are more contemporary hotels in neighboring areas, many visitors to Reine prefer to stay right in the village, settling into one of the converted fishermen’s cabins known as “rorbuers”. From here you can go on long hikes, spend hours bird watching to see how many of the dozens of species of birds that call the Lofoten Islands home you can spot, or go on relaxing boat tours of the area.

There are many ways that you can get to Reine in Lofoten. The most direct route, of course, is to fly into one of the airports on the Lofoten Islands and travel there by car, bus, or ferry, but you can also extend the pleasure of the journey by taking a train from mainland Norway into the Lofoten Islands, driving there, or even boarding one of the Classic Voyages of a nearby cruise line.

Plan your trip to Reine with the weather in mind. Though the Lofoten Islands are considered to have a major temperature anomaly considering its location, the weather here is still quite cool. Summer temperatures are generally in the 50s, so pack accordingly so you can enjoy your visit to the fullest.

One of the most thrilling parts of going to a new place is the opportunity to explore what is unfamiliar and leave with a feeling that you have encountered something amazing that was beyond your usual comfort zone and made it a part of you. Those visiting Lofoten Island have this opportunity laid widely out in front of them. If you are planning a trip to this Norway archipelago you will quickly notice that there are seemingly innumerable ways to explore the area. This means that you can take your own personal perspective and interests and let them guide you through the islands so that you can gain your own appreciation for the area and its culture while others do the same. No two people experience the world in exactly the same way, so there’s no reason to follow the same exact vacation path as everyone else, either.

How you choose to explore Lofoten Island is completely up to you. There is something there for you whether you like adventurous excursions into nature to enjoy the incredible mountains, white sand beaches, or numerous harbors, if you prefer a glimpse into the culture through art and historical sites, or if you would rather jump right in and take on immersive experiences such as participating in a traditional sporting event or pretending to be a Viking for the day.

If you’d like to fill your exploration of the Lofoten Islands with a little bit of everything, make sure you make time in your vacation schedule for these activities:

·

Guided tours of the eastern portion of the Lofoten Islands offer guests a look at a natural breakwater which is created by the strong protection of the mountain range. This creates a harbor that is extremely well protected and therefore busy and productive. You can explore a fishing village, browse art galleries of pieces inspired by the natural beauty of the area, and enjoy traditional foods in one of the cafés or restaurants.

If you can possibly schedule your trip for the period of the midnight sun many guests relish the opportunity to spend the endless days biking around the islands for a closer, more personal approach to touring. The light during the midnight sun is something that must be witnessed to be understood and for someone who craves the outdoors and physical activity, nothing can be better than the opportunity to bike, hike, swim, and watch wildlife unfettered by the worry that the sun will set and end the fun.

·

Head to the area called Borg where you will encounter the truly impressive structure that was converted from the ancient home of a powerful Chieftain into the Viking History Museum. This museum is filled with visual exhibitions, displays of the domesticated animals and plants that were so important to the everyday living of the Viking people, and immersion experiences led by knowledgeable guides that instruct on things such as the food and cooking practices of the Vikings, the music enjoyed by the people, and the realities of life on the Viking ships.

One of the best parts of exploring a new and interesting land during a vacation is taking the opportunity to learn more about the culture of the people who call that land home, as well as the cultural elements that went in to the evolution of the area as a distinct destination.

When you are traveling you are given the chance to go outside of yourself and your personal comfort zone to experience something completely new. This deepens your understanding of the world around you and increases your appreciation of all the amazing differences and variations in people, places, experiences, and perceptions that make up the human experience.

If you are planning to visit the Lofoten Islands you have the opportunity to learn about a culture that is simultaneously ancient and constantly evolving. The Lofoten culture has its roots in the time of the Vikings. This fascinating group of people has intrigued and compelled people since their existence, and is honored for their contribution to the culture and development of Lofoten at the Lofotr Viking Museum near Borg. This museum was created from the former home of a powerful chieftain and features many exhibitions, reconstructions, and archaeological finds uncovered from both the Viking Age and the Iron Age.

Beyond the Viking influences, the Lofoten culture has been greatly impacted by the fishing culture that is still at its center. For more than 1,000 years the people of Lofoten have had their main industry in cod fishing. Visitors to the area can take cruise tours of the island and see some generations-old fisheries still working today. The cod fishing industry is especially busy during the winter months when the incongruously mild Lofoten weather draws schools of cod to the waters to spawn.

In the lowland areas much of the culture revolves around agriculture. Just like the fisheries, the agriculture industry has been in existence for centuries, in fact since the Bronze Age. This agriculture is one of the main reasons that the Lofoten Islands was a central hub for export to Europe during the period when such trade was controlled by the Hanseatic League.

Lofoten culture is also marked by much more contemporary influences as well. Chefs are developing gourmet and experiential food in the restaurants and cafés of the string of islands, many of the offerings actually based on the ancient foods of the culture and given a unique and modern edge. Visual art is extremely important to the culture of the Lofoten Islands. This is illustrated by the existence of many renowned art galleries and museums on the islands.

Lofoten has been an influence itself for cultural expressions of different areas. References to the area are included in one of the most popular tales woven by the master storyteller Edgar Allan Poe. This story “A Descent into the Maelstrom” recalls the harrowing tale of a man surviving his ship being swallowed into the sea in the area.

A movie by the name of “Maelstrom” features Lofoten as the place where the ashes of a main character were scattered. Like the people of Lofoten, many artists have been drawn in by the beauty of the area and compelled to create lavish paintings of the natural landscape.

Making the decision to visit a new place can be extremely exciting, but it can also be intimidating. Even if you are a dedicated adventurer ready to take on any adventure, it can help to know a little bit about where you are going so that you can be prepared to fully enjoy your experience, as well as making sure that you go at the right time of year to maximize your time.

If you are considering visiting the Lofoten Islands understanding some basic Lofoten info can help you start the planning process and give you the opportunity to plan your vacation in the best way for your vacation travel group.

Basic Lofoten Info

Where is Lofoten?

Lofoten is an archipelago, meaning a string of islands, located in Norway. This area is considered one of the most traditional areas of the country.

What is the area called the “Lofoten Islands”?

The name “Lofoten” was originally attached to only one island, but it is now the title of the total string of islands. The name is a combination of two Norse words. The first part is derived from the Norse word for “lynx” (the small wild cat), while the second part is derived from the Norse word for “foot”. This name was given because the original island had a shape that was reminiscent of the foot of a lynx. There is also a nearby island that had the original name Vargfot, meaning “the foot of the wolf”.

Because of the shape of the archipelago some people also refer to the string of islands as the “Lofoten wall”.

What are the Lofoten Islands known for?

For the last 1,000 years the Lofoten Islands have been best known for their participation in the cod fishing industries. This is especially true in the winter when the fisheries are able to take advantage of rich fishing conditions due to the schools of cod migrating into the area in order to spawn. Other areas of the islands also participate in agriculture, maintaining the traditions of agriculture and trade that have existed in the Lofoten Islands since the Bronze Age.

What is the weather like in the Lofoten Islands?

Of all of the basic Lofoten info that you may learn, what to expect from the weather may be some of the most useful. When you are planning a vacation it is important that you know about the weather so that you can choose the time that you want to visit and pack accordingly. Even though the Lofoten Islands are in the Arctic Circle the area experiences a major temperature anomaly that keeps the average temperature at above freezing levels throughout the entire year. The warmest temperature recorded is around 87 degrees. If you travel to the Lofoten Islands in May or June you can expect dry, warm conditions. In autumn, particularly in October, the weather gets windy and wet, sometimes experiencing serious storms. In the winter Lofoten commonly sees snow and sleet, but the temperatures remain surprisingly high considering the area’s latitude.

For some people, a vacation is an opportunity to completely relax, letting go of all of the stresses and tensions of regular day to day life and indulging in the chance to do absolutely nothing for a few days. For others, part of releasing tension is exploring, embarking on grand adventures, and enjoying physical activities that challenge their bodies and their minds as they throw themselves into their new surroundings with vigor and enthusiasm.

If you are one of the latter, you may appreciate the opportunity to include Lofoten climbing in your next vacation. Norway is quickly becoming a popular vacation spot due to its immense beauty and cultural offerings, and the Lofoten Islands are a little jewel in the crown of the area. Those that choose to visit this Arctic Circle archipelago are treated to breathtaking scenery, a gentle, mild climate, rich history, and the freedom to explore.

The Lofoten climbing opportunities make these Islands an ideal destination for anyone interested in climbing, from the most beginner of novices to an experienced climber seeking out a new challenge to add to his repertoire. All you need to do is choose whether you want to brave the near vertical mountain walls or would rather follow a gentler path that requires only a bit of help from your hands as you scramble along.

One popular climbing destination is fuglefjellet Vedoya. You will access this island by first visiting the surprisingly flat island of Rost and taking a leisurely boat ride to the next destination. The term “fuglefjellet” means “Mountain of birds” and was given to this place because it is where the puffins come to nest. Climbers have the perfect opportunity to watch the wildlife from this point.

The next stop on your Lofoten climbing adventure can be Varoy. This island is a much more challenging destination. The incredible peaks seem to grow out of the surrounding water and stretch straight up to the sky. Here you will find only a narrow stretch of land that is home to the harbors and associated fishing villages central to the industry and culture of this area. This entire island is available to climb, depending on your skill le el and dedication. The highest peak is called Nordlandsnupen and reaches up to a height of 450 meters.

When you move on to the next island you will be venturing into the largest portions of the Lofoten Islands. This island is called Moskenesoya and is home to amazing fjords. These are the valleys created by water and ice that have washed away the soil and created deep, dramatic cuts into the green landscape. Here you will find the so-called “classic Lofoten climbing peak”, called Svolvaergeita. You will also encounter the highest summit on the Island, Hermannsdalstinden, which is 1029 meters high.

When you are not fully invested in your climbs you may want to take the time to visit Henningvaer, a picturesque little town that is home to a climbing school and offers you the chance to meet up with other climbers.

One of the most exciting parts of going on vacation is during the planning process when you get to choose all of the activities you want to participate in and the sites that you want to see. Choosing all of the wonderful things that you will get to do during the days that you spend at your vacation destination makes your impending trip seem so much closer and gives you even more to think about as the time gets closer.
Depending on your personal preferences and those of your family or travel group there may be any number of things that you can choose to do or see when you visit a new place. This makes planning ahead even more important. You want to make sure that every member of the travel group has his opinion heard so that the trip is equally wonderful for everybody.
If you are planning a visit to the lovely Norwegian island chain of the Lofoten Islands, you have a huge world of options open to you. You can elect to watch sports, go on bike tours, or even go whale watching. If you want to spend some time truly appreciating the culture of the area, however, you should make it a priority to spend part of your vacation exploring the many Lofoten museums available for visitors to browse.

Lofotr Borg Viking MuseumThis extraordinary museum is located in an area of the Lofoten Islands called Borg. It is actually reconstructed from the former home of a chieftain discovered during an archaeological dig that uncovered many items from both the Viking Age and the Bronze Age. Visitors can explore carefully designed exhibitions, reconstructions, and displays of domesticated animals that had an important place during the Viking Age.

Dagfin Bakke’s GalleryThis gallery is privately owned by the artist Dagfinn Bakke. He calls the Lofoten Islands his home and works as a painter, illustrator, and graphic artist. His works have been exhibited in galleries around the world and are currently on display in other public galleries as well. You can enjoy his art or if you are truly touched by a piece, they are available for purchase as well.

Kabelvag Lofoten aquarium
A living museum, this is the aquarium of the Lofoten Islands. It incorporates the lush natural environment and offers exhibitions of over 20 types of wildlife including unusual fish and varieties of seals. A visit to this Lofoten museum is an ideal complement to a whale watching tour through the surrounding water.

The Norwegian Fishing Village Museum
This museum was created as a collaboration between the Moskenes History and Museum Society and the Moskenes municipal council along with Mr. Sigurd Harald Ellingsen. Visitors to the museum get a unique perspective on life within the fishing village, particularly the Lofoten Fishery, over the last two decades. It’s coastal location makes it a lovely addition to a day spent enjoying the landscape.

Lofoten House Gallery
This gallery is dedicated to pieces that were created during what is known as the golden age of Norwegian art, particularly oil paintings. A virtual exhibit also welcomes visitors to experience the four seasons of the Lofoten Islands.
